ABOUT ME

I am a historian and writer living in Washington, DC.  Previously I was the director of the Southern Oral History Program at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where I also held adjunct appointments in History, American Studies, and Women's & Gender Studies. My most recent book is Speaking of Feminism: Today's Activists on the Past, Present and Future of the U.S. Women's Movement, from UNC Press (Sept, 2019).  I was a Fulbright scholar in Finland in 2019. Before arriving at UNC, I worked at Duke University and at Carleton College as well as in the non-profit sector in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

READ ABOUT MY FULBRIGHT SEMESTER IN FINLAND

Reflections on a Fulbright Semester

This blog is about my time as a Fulbright Scholar living abroad January-May 2019. I'll be writing about teaching U.S. women's history in an international context; learning more about the health humanities through interdisciplinary collaborations with scholars at the University of Turku, and my impressions of life in a Nordic culture. I hope to discover many connections--to people, ideas, and to this beautiful country--and I hope you'll find ways to connect with what you read here.
